EMPATHY
If Any of This Sounds Familiar, Keep Reading.
You’ve been living with the pain for months — maybe years. Radiating ache down your leg. Numbness in your arm. The sharp catch every time you turn the wrong way. You can’t sit through a full workday. Getting in and out of the car is a production.
You’ve been to your primary care doctor. You’ve had the MRI. You’ve probably done physical therapy, tried anti-inflammatories, maybe even got an epidural injection.
And you’re still hurting.
Now someone is suggesting surgery. And something in you is saying: there has to be another way.
There is.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
What a Herniated Disc Really Means — And Why It's Treatable Without Surgery
Between each vertebra in your spine sits a disc — a cushion with a tough outer ring and a soft gel center. When that outer ring tears or weakens, the soft center can bulge outward, pressing on the nerves that run through your spinal canal.
That pressure is what causes your pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness — whether it’s shooting down your leg (sciatica), radiating into your arm, or creating that constant, unrelenting ache in your lower back or neck.
Conventional medicine offers two main paths: manage the pain with medication, or remove the disc with surgery. Both leave the underlying mechanical problem unaddressed.
We take a third path — one that’s proven, non-surgical, and has helped hundreds of Charlotte patients reclaim their lives without going under the knife.
THE APPROACH
The Innovation Health Approach to Disc Injuries
We don’t just treat the disc. We treat the whole person — because a herniated disc rarely exists in isolation. The way you move, the health of the surrounding muscles and ligaments, your inflammatory load, even your nervous system function all affect how well you heal. Our approach addresses all of it.
Step 1: Comprehensive Evaluation Your first visit includes a thorough examination of your spine, neurological function, posture, and movement patterns. We review your imaging (MRI, X-ray) and ask the questions most providers don’t — about your history, your lifestyle, and the full picture of your health. We need to understand why your disc is under stress, not just that it is.
Step 2: DRX9000 Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression The DRX9000 is the most advanced FDA-cleared spinal decompression system in the world. Using precisely controlled distraction, it gently elongates the spine and creates negative pressure inside the disc — drawing the herniated material back inward and promoting natural healing of the disc tissue.
Unlike surgery, there’s no cutting, no anesthesia, no recovery time. Patients lie comfortably on the table for 30 minutes while the machine does the work.
“After one treatment, the next day my pain was significantly reduced to a 3-pain level. A few days later, my pain was completely gone!” — Jacque Maus, Charlotte NC (pre-treatment pain: 10/10)
Step 3: Chiropractic Adjustment & Spinal Correction Decompression works best when the spine is also properly aligned. Dr. Brad Wolf uses targeted chiropractic adjustments to restore normal spinal mechanics, reduce nerve pressure, and support the healing process between decompression sessions.
Step 4: Functional Medicine (When the Problem Goes Deeper) Chronic inflammation, poor nutrient absorption, and systemic imbalances all slow disc healing. If your case warrants it, Dr. Lauren Pepper evaluates the metabolic and systemic factors contributing to your condition — and addresses them with targeted nutritional and lifestyle protocols.
Step 5: Custom Orthotics & Movement Correction Your feet are the foundation of your spine. Improper gait mechanics can continuously re-stress the same disc, no matter how many times it heals. We fit patients for custom orthotics built from individual foot scans to correct the root biomechanical issues that keep many disc injuries coming back.

What Charlotte Patients Say
"I could barely walk. It was painful to sit for long periods, and very difficult to get in and out of the car."
After treatment at Innovation Health, Craig Pinchuk now has a complete understanding of how his body works and what was causing his pain — and the tools to keep it from coming back.
"My pain was unbearable — a 10 out of 10. It hurt to walk, sit, sneeze, or do anything."
After DRX9000 spinal decompression, Jacque Maus experienced dramatic pain relief after just one treatment — and was pain-free within days.
"Before coming to Innovation Health, I had a limited range of motion and was in a lot of pain. Now I walk with more confidence and have less low back and leg pain. My mid-back pain went away entirely."
"Both Dr. Wolf and Dr. Pepper always take plenty of time with you and look at all aspects of the body to heal holistically."

Frequently Asked Questions
Most herniated disc patients begin a treatment protocol of 15–20 decompression sessions over 6–8 weeks. Many patients notice significant improvement within the first 3–5 sessions. Dr. Wolf will outline a specific protocol at your initial evaluation.
Coverage varies by plan. Our team will verify your benefits before your first appointment and review all options with you. We also offer cash-pay plans for patients without coverage.
The DRX9000 uses computer-controlled tension that varies throughout the treatment to prevent muscle guarding — a key limitation of older traction devices. This allows true decompression of the disc itself. Physical therapy addresses surrounding muscle function but cannot directly decompress the disc.
Some post-surgical patients are candidates for decompression, depending on the type of surgery. Dr. Wolf will review your case during your evaluation.
No. You can schedule directly. We accept self-referrals, physician referrals, and workers' compensation cases.
