Chiropractic

Have you ever wondered what a chiropractor can help with? This is a very popular question. Many people think of a chiropractic doctor when they have a back or neck pain, but not many people think of them when they are suffering from allergies, disc problems, headaches or fibromyalgia. Chiropractic is about removing interference from the spine and nerve system to allow the body to heal and function at the highest level possible.

Chiropractic was founded In 1895. The very first chiropractic patient, Harvey Lillard was deaf and got his hearing back. He reported being in a stooped position when he lost his hearing and was so deaf he couldn’t hear the train on the train tracks. DD Palmer adjusted his spine and his hearing was restored.

For more than 25 years we’ve been helping people heal from a myriad of problems including Infertility, vertigo, ear infections and digestive problems in babies, treatment and management of scoliosis and poor posture.

What Conditions Can Chiropractic Help With?

What conditions can chiropractic care help? Your spine protects your spinal cord. The spinal cord is how your brain communicates with your body and every other system. When bones of the spine (vertebrae) are misaligned, it irritates nerves. One of the reasons this is important is because the nerve system plays a key role in how the immune system works. When the spine and nerves get irritated, the immune system gets affected and can become compromised and malfunction. The nerve system is the computer system of the entire body and sends messages to every cell, tissue and organ. It is estimated that there are more than 60,000 miles of nerves

So what conditions can chiropractic care help? Well, your spine protects your spinal cord. The spinal cord is how your body communicates with your brain and every other body system. When bones of the spine (vertebrae) are misaligned, it can impinge on nerves. This is important because the nerve system plays a key role in how the immune system works. Therefore, if nerves get irritated, the immune system and every other system can get affected and become compromised and malfunction. The nerve system is the master system of the entire body and send messages to every cell, tissue and organ.

A chiropractor is a specially trained doctor that improves the performance of the nerve system by removing interference from the spine. By doing this, your body can better adapt to allergens, fight infections quicker and reduce the likelihood of having illnesses such as colds and flu.

There are cushions between the bones in the spine called intervertebral discs. These spinal discs are a cushion, which has a soft middle (nucleus), surrounded by strong fibers of cartilage (annulus) and are very important for many reasons. Discs allow for proper motion of the spine. When discs degenerate or get injured, the spine becomes less mobile and can start to develop bone spurs. The Intervertebral discs create space between the bones of the spine (vertebrae). Each level of the spine and disc are stacked one on top of the other. This is important because nerves pass through these spaces. If a space around a nerve or spinal cord becomes twisted, stretched or injured in some way, then nerves can be irritated or compressed. Spinal discs act like shock absorbers. When the spine moves correctly, the soft center of the disc expands and contracts naturally. When the spine becomes misaligned, discs may become herniated or bulge and if it’s bad enough it might even rupture (burst). A misalignment is not the only cause of degeneration. Age also causes spinal discs to become weak and dehydrated. Not only do disc injuries put pressure on nerves, it also causes pain.

Chiropractic for Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis or better known as degenerative arthritis occurs when joints in the body get worn down and damaged. The likelihood of developing osteoarthritis increases if you suffer an injury. Common places for this to arise are in the hips, knees, shoulders, wrists, hands, ankles, feet, neck and back. Degenerative arthritis can be very painful and make daily life a struggle. These injuries may affect your whole body. This happens due to compensation. When a person has pain in one knee, it puts additional stress on the opposite knee. This not only impacts the knee you are putting more weight on but it also affects your ankles, feet, hips, pelvis and spine. Painkillers may provide relief until it wears off and it’s time to take another pill. Chiropractic helps take pressure off the spine, nerves and joints due to compensation and injury. Chiropractic adjustments restore proper alignment, motion and stability of the spine and all our joints. This is important because at Innovation Health we are concerned with treating your whole body.

Joint dysfunction occurs when joints become stiff and the motion of the body is restricted. There are many different causes including muscle imbalances, injury, and poor posture. Compensation is a common cause of pain, just like with arthritis. Misalignment of the sacroiliac region causes many commonly treated spinal injuries. The sacroiliac joint is located where the sacrum (base of the spine) meets the pelvis. Imbalances in alignment of the low back and pelvis can create pain, limit motion and irritate nerves. It can also interfere with organ systems including digestion, blood pressure and menstrual cycles to name a few.

Sacroiliac misalignment is often mistaken for sciatic pain or a herniated disc. Call Innovation Health today to be properly evaluated. At Innovation Health we perform a thorough exam and develop a specific plan to restore alignment and mobility of your spine and body to take pressure off nerves to give you relief.

Chiropractic for Automobile Accidents

Following an automobile accident, whiplash is the most common injury. This is an outdated term and is now referred to as an acceleration deceleration event. After being struck by another object including an automobile, the neck can thrash back and forth quickly and violently. When this occurs, muscles in the neck and back can become severely injured due to being strained or torn. This kind of soft tissue injury leads to stiffness and pain in the neck and back. The quick snapping movement that occurs during whiplash leads to structural damage of the spine and body. These misalignments can cause herniated or bulging discs and in severe cases, a disc can rupture (burst) and cause nerve damage.

Chiropractic is proven to help both soft tissue and structural injuries caused by whiplash. We offer specific, low force adjustments at Innovation Health in NC for those suffering from whiplash and other injuries due to a car accident. It’s very important to make sure that injuries from a car accident heal correctly, allowing pressure to be removed from nerves, muscle spasms to resolve and alignment and stability of the spine to be restored. Call us today to begin healing and put your accident injuries behind you.

Neck and Back Pain

It is common for many people to experience neck and back pain at some point in their life. Poor posture, accumulated trauma, chemical toxins and much more cause interference to the spine, body and nerves. This leads to problems where there is twisting of the spine and body, causing compression of nerves and discs and inflammation of muscles. When spinal injuries are left untreated, muscle spasms and increased pain may occur. If left untreated, nerves can be damaged which may lead to more serious consequences. At Innovation Health, we are trained to eliminate these injuries and relieve your pain.

Headaches

Headaches are considered a normal way of life. However, headaches are not normal. They are a sign of nerve pressure and irritation to the head and neck. There are many factors that lead to headaches, including loud noises, stress and hunger, but this may not be the underlying cause of your headaches. The most common cause of headaches is tension in the neck, shoulders and head. When the head is looking down or being held in poor posture , tension puts pressure and stress on the neck which leads to pain and headaches. Studies have found that 85% of all headaches are traced back to the neck. A headache that originates from the neck is known as a cervicogenic headache. A person that experiences cervicogenic headaches is likely to feel throbbing and aching pain at the base of the head. Headache pain can radiate into the forehead and temples and behind the eyes. Chiropractic adjustments relieve tension on the head and neck and restore the correct alignment and stability of the spine. Regular chiropractic adjustments relieve and prevent headaches. Come to Innovation Health and ask how we can help you with your headaches! You’ll be glad you did!

Chiropractic Sciatica

One of the most common conditions caused by injury to the low back and pelvis is known as sciatica. Sciatica occurs when there is pressure or irritation to the sciatic nerve which travels from the low back (T12 L1, L2, L3), past the base of the spine and down the back of the legs to the feet. These nerves are the longest and widest nerves in the whole body. Pressure on the Sciatic nerve can cause pain, numbness, tingling or burning which is caused by misalignment or injury to the spine and pelvis. When a person has spinal disc injuries (herniation, bulging or degenerated discs) or experiences muscle spasms in the low back, their pain can increase due to pressure on the sciatic nerve. Pain in the buttock region from sciatic pain may be confused with the sacroiliac joint or hip pain, where the sacrum meets the pelvis. Those suffering from sciatic pain often experience shooting, sharp, burning pain in the back of their legs which can travel from the low back all the way to the feet or may even skip from the low back all the way to the feet. It is uncommon to experience sciatic pain in both legs at the same time. At Innovation Health, we treat this problem without surgery and can often resolve this pain rather than mask it with medications.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Chiropractic

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a very common condition especially for people that work at a computer for long periods of time each day. This occurs when repetitive movement of the hands and fingers combined with poor posture of the neck irritates and inflames tendons of the wrist where the nerves pass into the fingers (specifically finger # 2 and 3 controlled by the median nerve). Our hands and fingers are controlled by our forearm muscles. A combination of physical stress to the neck and repetitive movement of the fingers causes wear and tear on the forearms, wrist and hands. All nerves in the body start in the spine, including the nerves that run to your fingertips. Chiropractic adjustments and improved posture can relieve stress and pressure on your nerves and eliminate carpal tunnel pain.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is defined as chronic, widespread pain and affects almost 6 million Americans. These symptoms include pain throughout the body, especially the nerves, joints and muscles. People suffering from fibromyalgia may describe their pain as mild or severe burning, aching, sharp, shooting and radiating. Because this pain is chronic, it is common for this condition to bring on headaches, depression and anxiety. Research shows that chiropractic adjustments provide relief for those suffering fibromyalgia. At Innovation Health we perform a thorough history and exam and treat the entire body by relieving stress and pressure on the nerve system to help those suffering from fibromyalgia.

Chiropractic for Pinched Nerves

Pinched nerves have been found to be the culprit behind many different conditions from headaches to heart attacks, from infertility to widespread pain. This happens because misalignments in the body compress nerves extending off the spinal cord. This compression not only affects the local area of the nerve irritation but can extend further than thought. A misalignment in the pelvis may even cause migraine headaches. This is why at Innovation Health we perform a full body exam. When your health is in our hands, we go above and beyond to help you heal your body and get your life back.

There are many conditions that chiropractic can help with. Not only can chiropractic adjustments alleviate pain and help a myriad of conditions, but it can also prevent conditions through better habits. Regularly scheduled chiropractic visits maintain proper alignment of the spine and structure and keep your nerve system functioning optimally so your immune system, reproductive system, respiratory system, circulatory system and every other system can function at optimal performance!

Call us today at Innovation Health in NC for your no-obligation consultation and empower your health to function at its maximum potential! Imagine the possibilities!
